Directing Videos: Wassaktuchatts & Nautical Nonsense
By the time Know Theatre's Serials 6: Lightening Cube rolled around, I was no stranger to the Know Underground stage. I had directed a show in almost every serial since the Fall of 2015. I initially only planned to direct Wassaktuchatts (Pronounced Wash-sak-too-shatts) by Chris Wesselman, a political dark comedy about the underbelly of Midwestern politics. However, my longtime friend, Andy Simpson approached me with a piece to direct during this round of serials as well. The play's full title is The Nautical Nonsense of Fun-time Adventure Funtimes of Spongey Spongey Bogdan or Nautical Nonsense for short. The play follows a band of a refugee acting troupe fleeing their war-torn country and an ICE agent with delusions of grandeur all while they perform their version of beloved American cartoon about porous yellow creature who lives in a pineapple under the sea. While Wasaktuchatts only got 2 episodes, Nautical Nonsense was able to run from week 3 of Serials 6 all the way to the final round in week 5! As the camera is stationary, please note that not all the action in the venue was captured.
